Basement conversion and side extension to Victorian terraced house
The basement and ground floor levels were linked by introducing a rear/side extension with internal openings to the ground floor, new basement play room and kitchen half level. This helped to create more continuity and openness throughout the living areas of the house. The decision to excavate only part of the basement level provided a more economical approach, helping to reduce the need for expensive excavations and foundation underpinning. The result is a generous new basement family room. A key element in this design is natural light, which we maximised by introducing horizontal and vertical light tunnels and glass panels through the floors and walls.
